Greenhouse and its benefits in the use of pesticides

The use of seedlings provides greater uniformity in the planted areas. The seedling produced in greenhouses is sent to the field after about 12 days, avoiding spraying in this period.

 

 

 

 

 

The Use of Thermal Blanket

This thermal blanket is used in the entire area, offering protection against pests in the first 25 days (1/3 of growing period), without the need to use any kind of pesticide.

It also works as a barrier against the wind, improving the plant performance in its initial phase, which is the most important one, reducing stress .  

 

 

The use of mulch

We use black mulch, a film with three layers, with an external silver phase and an internal black one.
The reflexive effect of silver produces
•  Reduction of soil temperature by up to 6 degrees on hot days;
•  Rejection on the part of some pests;
•  Cultivated area photosynthesis and production increase;

 

•  Light dispersion that dries the plant leaves more quickly, avoiding formation of fungi likely to occur in humidity;
•  Homogeneous fruit maturation to a more uniform color.

 

 

 

Bees

Productivity is increased with pollination made by bees. There are 600 hives on the farm, distributed at a density of 5 hives per hectare.

They are suspended in order to avoid moths. Inspection is performed every two months in order to monitor bee efficiency.

 

Deep wells

Water from deep wells has mineral properties and is a safe source for the farm.

Currently, we count on 4 deep wells (1000 m.) and 17 shallow wells in the farm.

 

Biological Project

An environmental project is undergoing implementation in an area of 1,200 hectares (20% of our total area).
In this reserve, animal and vegetative species will be identified and studied in an effort of their preservation.

Recycling for the Future

A Agricola Famosa is developing a waste recycling program. As part of this program, Agricola is investing in state of the art machinery and personnel training in order to maximize the recycle of the materials used in the farms.

Between the months of August and December of 2007, Agricola Famosa recycled 575.620 Kg of plastic, paper and cupboard materials. The goal is to double this number for this year.
